Demonstration of PANTHER hybrid integration concept

The main PANTHER concept, which is based on the development and integration of passive polymer planar circuits with EO polymer modulator arrays, is already demonstrated. For first time this novel polymer-to-polymer hybrid integration concept is introduced by assembling a tunable transmitter for serial connectivity at 100 Gb/s.

More specifically, this concept is based on the butt-end coupling of a passive polyboard (with 0.7-dB/cm propagation loss) to an EO polyboard (with 1.4-dB/cm propagation loss) that monolithically integrates a high-bandwidth (>65-GHz) Mach-Zehnder modulator. This passive polyboard integrates an InP gain chip, a monolithic Bragg-Grating and a half-wave plate, operating as TM emitting external cavity laser with tunability over a >30-nm range within the C-band.

Furthermore, the flexibility of the transmitter was evaluated in a ring-based optical circuit switch domain inside an intra-datacenter network. This work presented at OFC/NFOEC 2015 in Los Angeles. (Paper Tu2A.3, March 22-26, 2015
